Moving Beyond’s mission is to provide accessible yoga and meditation classes to all interested individuals. Our goal is to increase awareness of holistic self-care practices through the practice of yoga and meditation. As a result, individuals will understand how yoga and meditation can help them move beyond their current state and improve quality of life, reduce stress, and promote healing.
Moving Beyond is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Minneapolis, MN. The organization was founded in August of 2018. The founder of Moving Beyond recognized a need for community-centered holistic wellness that was affordable for everyone. Our yoga and meditation classes are 100% donation based.
The Moving Beyond Board of Directors is responsible for the overall policy and direction of the organization, and delegates responsibility for day-to-day operations to the Studio Manager. All board and studio staff positions are filled by volunteers. Moving Beyond is looking for other volunteers that are interested in supporting our mission. If you are interested in volunteering your time to lead a weekly yoga and/or meditation class please contact us today.
Studio Manager and Yoga & Meditation Instructor
Kim has been practicing yoga for 20+ years and meditation for 10+ years. She attributes yoga and meditation with helping her body heal from blood clots in her lungs in 2004 and again in 2010 while recovering from a spinal injury. Besides the physical healing she has experienced, Kim believes yoga and meditation have supported her personal and professional growth by improving her self-awareness, resilience to stress, and connection to self. Her goal is to inspire others to create their own self-care practices. In 2018, Kim took her first yoga teacher certification class from YogaFit Training Systems Worldwide Inc. She earned her 200-hour Yoga Teacher Certification in October 2020 and is working towards her 500-hour Teacher Certification. Kim has been leading guided meditation classes since 2010 and completed training as a Guided Imagery Therapist in 2018. When she is not volunteering at Moving Beyond she provides personal yoga and meditation sessions at Karma Kim Yoga and also works as a consultant in the healthcare industry.
Yoga Instructor
Shannon began practicing Yoga in 2013 while caring for a gentleman on hospice care who had taught Yoga for 40 years. She believes that his many years of devoted Yoga practice helped cause his terminal illness to progress at a slower rate. In addition, she observed how even the simplest chair yoga practice or arm posture practice while he was bedridden improved his quality of life. The experience inspired her to want to pursue her yoga teacher certification, so she could offer individuals tools and postures that are accessible for a variety of circumstances and abilities. Shannon received her 200-hour Yoga Teacher Certification from the St. Paul Yoga Center in 2020 with Maria Toso. She also worked at Present Moment Herbs and Books for 6 years before opening up her own yoga and herbal consultation studio in Minneapolis called B Herbal Apothecary. In her freetime she enjoys studying herbal medicine, creating herbal infused oils with her daughter, or taking a weekend trip to Wisconsin with her family.
